Frequently asked questions
About the game
What is Windlands? A Minecraft MMORPG server. You can't build or dig here. You level a hero up to level 100 at mob spots, gather gear, play through the story, and trade with other players.
How much does it cost to play? Nothing. The Wind Crystal shop is voluntary support for the server, see Shop.
Which Minecraft version? Java Edition 1.21.11 with mods. The Windlands launcher installs everything — nothing to set up by hand.
Can I join from a regular launcher or from Bedrock (phone, console)? No. You can only play through the Windlands launcher, on Windows, macOS, or Linux: the server runs on about a hundred mods, and the launcher installs them for you.
Can I build and dig? No, the world is protected from changes. Windlands is about combat, gear, and the economy, not building.
Is this like Lineage 2 or Karos? Yes, we're inspired by classic Korean MMORPGs: spots, mouse-driven combat, auto-attack, sharpening, gear grades.
Server
Can I play right now? The closed test is running. See Discord for how to join the test and when it opens.
Will there be a wipe? Once — when the closed test ends. Your Wind Crystal balance and anything bought with crystals will be kept. We're not planning regular wipes.
What language is the server? Russian, with an English version in the works. Separate regions for English-speaking players and for Russia will follow later, see Roadmap.
Are there classes? Not yet. Four classes (Swordsman, Archer, Assassin, Mage) and hero selection are in development, see Classes.
Gameplay
Where do I start? With the First steps guide.
What do I lose on death? Your items stay with you. From level 10, you lose a little experience (your level never drops). You also lose 8–17% of your karats: half is destroyed, half drops at the spot where you died. More in the Levels and XP guide.
Can I kill other players? Only in PvP zones and from level 36. Attacking peaceful players raises your karma, see PvP and karma.
How do I send karats to a friend? Through a trade with /trade <nickname>. There are no direct transfers, to protect against scammers.
I lost items to a server error. The server regularly saves inventory snapshots. Open a Discord ticket with your nickname, the time, and what you lost: staff will check and restore it if it was a server error. We don't restore items handed to another player on trust.
Is auto-attack cheating? No, the built-in auto-attack is part of the game. Third-party bots and macros are forbidden, see Rules.
Technical questions
Will it run on my computer? Check the system requirements. There's a "Low-end PC" preset for weaker computers.
I play on Mac — anything to know? You need a Mac with Apple M1 or newer. On first launch, macOS will ask for permission, see How to start. Long-distance rendering doesn't work on Mac; otherwise it's the same game.
The game is lagging. See Graphics and interface.
Pressing O opens shaders instead of settings. Go to "Settings → Controls" and remove the O binding from Iris.
Payments
What do Wind Crystals get me? Cosmetics, quality-of-life items, and in-game items. Karats can't be bought with crystals. See Shop.
Can I get a refund? Unspent crystals — within 14 days. Details in the legal section.
I'm under 18, can I buy things? From age 14, with parental consent. Under 14, a parent has to make the purchase.
