Your first hour on Windlands

Windlands isn't regular Minecraft. Blocks can't be broken or placed here, there's no vanilla experience, and mobs don't wander the world on their own. You level up a hero: fighting mobs at spots, completing quests, gathering gear. This guide walks you from your first login to a solid level 5–10 in about an hour.

Figures current as of 2026-09-24.

1. Look around town

You spawn in the starting town. Everything you need is here:

WhoWhat they're for
Characters with a ! icon overheadgive quests
Vendorsfood, potions, gear, scrolls
Innkeeperpersonal storage
Smithweapon sharpening
Jewelergem sockets
Auctioneertrading with other players

Press M to open the world map: vendors and other useful NPCs are marked with icons.

2. Take your first quests

Walk up to a character with a ! icon and press right-click. New players get a separate board, "Around Spawn": its tasks are simple and refresh every 5 minutes. Over time the story opens up too — story-quest characters are also marked with !.

The quest journal opens with J. Your current objectives show on the right side of the screen.

3. Head to a spot

A spot is a zone where mobs of a set level keep spawning. Every mob shows a level and a health bar, and the nameplate color tells you if it's within your reach:

  • white — your level, full experience;
  • yellow → red — stronger than you, less experience, more risk;
  • gray — too weak, gives no experience;
  • black — better not to touch it.

Mobs under level 15 only fight back if attacked. From level 16, they start noticing you on their own: an arrow appears over such a mob, turning from green to red.

4. Fight with the mouse

Press F5 until the MMO camera kicks in (a top-down, over-the-shoulder view with a free cursor). Then:

  • right-click a mob — your hero runs in and fights on their own;
  • R — attack the nearest mob, press again to switch to the next one;
  • W/A/S/D — stop fighting and step back.

More detail in the Combat and auto-attack guide.

5. Collect karats

Karats are the in-game currency. Coins drop from every spot mob and get credited automatically as soon as you pick them up. Your balance shows on screen. You start with 200 karats.

Your first purchases: health flasks from the potion maker and buff food from the innkeeper.

6. Don't fear death, but don't rush either

  • Below level 10, you don't lose experience on death.
  • Items stay with you on death.
  • You always lose karats: 8–17% of your balance, half destroyed, the rest dropped in a pile where you died. Don't carry large sums into dangerous places. Set up storage with the innkeeper — a page costs 500 karats.

7. Bring friends

It's easier to play together. U opens the party window (up to 5 people), Y is friends, G is your guild.
