How to set up graphics and the interface

The Windlands build includes long-distance rendering, shaders, ambient sound, and particles. On a strong PC it looks great, but a weak laptop might struggle. This guide helps you pick the right settings.

As of 2026-09-24.

The settings board

Press O. Sections are listed on the left, their content on the right. Sections: "Settings," "Sound," "Graphics," "HUD," "Atmosphere," "Camera," "Titles," "Achievements," "Premium Storage," "News," "Guides," "Events."

If pressing O opens the shader screen instead, go to "Settings → Controls" and remove the O binding from Iris.

Graphics presets

The "Graphics" section:

Low-end PCLowMediumHigh
Render distance5 chunks61016
Render resolution75%100%100%100%
Long-distance rendering (Voxy)offoff128 chunks256 chunks
Distant playersoffononon
Shadersoffoffmediumhigh
  • Medium is the default.
  • Low-end PC is for older laptops. It turns on automatically on Mac, since long-distance rendering doesn't work on macOS.
  • Custom — tune everything by hand.

Long-distance rendering (Voxy) shows mountains and forests for kilometers around, including distant players. The world around you loads in gradually the first time.

Complementary Shaders aren't bundled with the build: click "Download" in the "Graphics" section and they'll be fetched from Modrinth.

If the game is lagging

  1. Drop to the preset one step below.
  2. Turn off shaders: they're the heaviest load on your graphics card.
  3. Lower "Render resolution" to 75%.
  4. In the "Atmosphere" section, reduce particle density or turn particles off.
  5. Close your browser and other heavy programs.

HUD setup

In the "HUD" section → edit mode:

  • drag elements with the mouse;
  • mouse wheel — resize (50–200%);
  • R — rotate 90°, M — mirror;
  • right-click an element — reset its position;
  • Enter — save, Esc — cancel.

FPS may dip in edit mode — that's normal.

Atmosphere and sound

The "Atmosphere" section tunes footstep sounds, wind, rustling leaves, and particles. Music on Windlands changes on its own: separate tracks for towns, the tavern, flight, caves, and combat. Volume is controlled by the regular "Music" slider in sound settings.

Camera

The "Camera" section tunes the MMO camera. You can also hide the on-screen hint here.
