How PvP and karma work
Windlands isn't a PvP server, but you can fight other players. PvP is only active in marked zones and only from level 36, and attacking peaceful players raises your karma, which can cost you dearly. This guide is here so you understand the risk before you walk into a dangerous zone.
Figures current as of 2026-09-24.
Where you can fight
- In PvP zones. Entering one shows a banner with the zone's name, and a "PvP" icon lights up by the minimap. On the world map, these zones are marked with red hatching.
- During a guild territory siege: right at the territory point, even outside a PvP zone (see Guilds).
- In towns and everywhere else in the world, it's always peaceful.
PvP is available from level 36.
Karma and nickname color
Every player has karma, shown by their nickname color:
| Color | Karma | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Blue | 300 and above | a respected player |
| White | 0โ299 | a regular player |
| Red | below 0 | a player killer (PK) |
- Killing a spot mob raises karma.
- Killing a non-red player lowers karma by 300 or more, with the penalty growing for each further kill.
- Killing a red player carries no penalty.
- Self-defense also carries no penalty: if your opponent hit you within the last 30 seconds.
A red nickname stays until karma rises back above zero. The only way to clear it is by farming mobs.
Check your own karma with /pk.
What a red player risks
If a red player is killed in a PvP zone, 10โ50% of the items in their inventory drop (including equipped items), along with 10โ30% of their karats. The lower the karma, the bigger the loss. A red player also loses twice the normal experience on death.
White and blue players don't lose items on death.
PvP balance
- Damage to players is reduced by 20%, crits are weaker, and lifesteal is heavily reduced.
- Health flasks have a 30-second cooldown in combat with a player, instead of 10.
That way, the fight is decided by build and skill, not by who has more flasks.
